The Mets and Nationals gear up for a Sunday face-off. Fans hope for home runs, hot dogs, and a win to brag about on Monday.
It’s that time again: hot dogs, overpriced beer, and two baseball teams trying to convince themselves it's still early enough in the season for hope. The New York Mets and Washington Nationals are gearing up for a Sunday showdown, where somebody’s going home a hero — or at least slightly less embarrassed.
The Mets are dragging a slightly better record into the arena, powered by a bullpen that only sometimes collapses like a soggy taco. Meanwhile, the Nationals have been perfecting their "scrappy underdog" cosplay, because if you can’t win rings, you might as well win hearts. Fans are buzzing, but let’s be honest: most just want a home run they can awkwardly fist-bump about while spilling nachos on their kids.
Context-wise, both teams desperately need this win to stay in the early playoff conversation, otherwise known as "lying to ourselves until June." For the Mets, a loss would raise serious "here we go again" alarms. For the Nationals, it would simply confirm everyone’s suspicion that the rebuild is going about as well as a group project in high school.
Today’s update? First pitch at 1:35 p.m., and the over/under on the number of shirtless drunk guys caught on camera is currently set at 5. Place your bets accordingly. Sources: ESPN (27 April 2025), CBS Sports (27 April 2025), MLB.com (27 April 2025)
